AREA WOMEN HONORED BY WOMEN AND GIRLS FUND OF WAUKESHA COUNTY 

 Waukesha, Wis.   Nancy Major, Executive Director of Safe Babies Healthy Families, is one of four Waukesha County women will be honored for professional achievement, volunteerism and community leadership by the Women and Girls Fund of Waukesha County during the 28th Annual Women of Distinction Luncheon on Tuesday, May 1, at the Country Springs Hotel. The event, the Fund's largest fundraiser of the year, begins at 11:30 a.m. and will be emceed by Joyce Garbaciak of the WISN news team.

Honorees were selected by a panel of Waukesha community leaders. Selection was based on professional leadership, civic and philanthropic achievement in family, education, public service, community life, and arts and culture.

Proceeds from the luncheon support The Women and Girls Fund, a permanent fund of the Waukesha County Community Foundation. The Fund supports programs and organizations that help women and girls of all ages and socio-economic levels reach their full potential. 

Since its inception in 2004, the Fund's permanent endowment has awarded grants totaling $305,000 to 46 Waukesha County nonprofit organizations, including The Women's Center, Parents Place, and Lake Area Free Clinic.

The second annual Sweetheart Fashion Show – benefiting Safe Babies Healthy Families - will have them all. The Feb. 4 event, starting at 11 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, W231-N1600 Corporate Court, will spotlight the latest offerings from local boutiques and raise money to break the cycle of child abuse, neglect and poverty in Waukesha County.Longtime county residents Andrea Bryant and Kay Lettenberger are co-chairs of the Sweetheart Fashion Show, which began with a splash in 2011. Along with many items of clothing and jewelry displayed, this year’s event will feature a gourmet lunch, and dozens of raffle items along with select auction items. Jordan Dechambre, Fashion Editor for M Magazine, is the guest emcee.

2 Organizations Merge to Help Young Families

Pregnancy Support Connection and Healthy Families of Waukesha are joining forces to create a merged organization called Safe Babies Healthy Families.

“By combining our two organizations, we are eliminating duplication of service and reducing administrative costs,” said Nancy Major, executive director of Safe Babies Healthy Families. “By allowing us to do that, we are able to serve more people, more effectively and more efficiently.”

Pregnancy Support Connection and Healthy Families to Merge

New Organization will be Safe Babies Healthy Families

Waukesha - Two long-serving Waukesha non-profits are merging to create one organization that will help women in crisis from the moment they realize they're pregnant until their children are 5 years old.

Pregnancy Support Connection and Healthy Families will officially merge on Jan. 1, but training is already underway to make sure staff is able to serve the prenatal to childhood needs of any woman who walks through its door, said Shirley Wehmeier, former executive director of Healthy Families.

Agency helps with unplanned, crisis pregnancy
