Pregnancy Support Connection Program Outcomes:
- In 2010, 100% of the babies born to PSC clients were alcohol/drug-free.
- In 2010, less than 10% of PSC clients have repeat crisis, unplanned pregnancies.
- In 2010, 95% of babies born to PSC clients were from healthy deliveries, measured by a birth weight of 5.8 lbs. or greater.
Other Client Information:
The majority of the young women who come to Pregnancy Support Connection are high-risk from a psychosocial and/or medical standpoint.
High risk is defined as having at least one of the following factors: an unplanned pregnancy, a single marital status, being under the age of 20, a history of childhood sexual and/or physical abuse, depression, low self-esteem, poverty-level income, an inadequate support system, on-going health or nutritional issues and/or barriers to need fulfillment such as; safe housing, transportation, food resources, etc.
We see many clients who are living in unsafe living situations or living with family or friends where there is not adequate space for all living there.
Our Collaborative Partnerships:
- In 2010, PSC made 796 referrals to a number of our community partners; including, but not limited to, Aro Counseling & Family Service, Family Self-Suffuciency, Family Services, Healthy Families, La Casa, Legal Action of WI, Mental Health Association, Parent's Place, Public Health, The Women Center, U.W.-Extension, Waukesha Family Practice, Waukesha Food Pantry, Waukesha Housing Authority, WCTC, WIC, Workforce Development Center and others.
PSC recognizes that the needs of its clients are best served through a partnership philosophy and we thank all of our community partners for joining us in our efforts to meet the needs of our clients.
Our Client Demographics for 2010 included, but are not limited to:
- Over 85% of clients report a history of childhood abuse (either sexual, physical or neglect).
- 86% of clients receiving case management reported living in abusive/unsafe/unsuitable environments; requiring immediate housing assistance and coordination of care for housing needs.
- 59% of clients receiving case management were identified as having mental health issues requiring specific intervention and coordination of care with one or more of our collaborating agencies that specialize in this area.
- 16% of clients receiving case management were identified as dealing with alcohol or other drug addictions/abuse, requiring enrollment in our Perinatal Substance Abuse Program.
- 95% of our clients were identified as living in extreme poverty, most registering far below the average “poverty level” and required immediate crisis assistance and our coordination of care/on-going case management along with collaborating agencies that specialize in this area.
- 31% of our clients were identified as lacking appropriate educational levels for their age categories (i.e., high school diploma or GED) and required our coordination/on-going case management along with appropriate educational resources that specialize in this area.
